Pace has also written two books on American specialty cars and contributed to the Beaulieu Encyclopedia of the Automobile, for which he was awarded the Cugnot Award of Distinction from the Society of Automotive Historians. He and co-writer Mark Brinker wrote Vintage American Road Racing Cars 1950-1970, which has been acknowledged as the definitive work on the subject. Before embarking on his career as an automotive journalist Pace was a commercial photographer in the advertising industry for 19 years, but he’s been involved in racing since 1967 when he began working in timing and scoring (at age 15) at the old Green Valley Raceway near Fort Worth, Texas. He has held an SCCA National Competition License and has competed in drag racing, SCCA road racing, autocrossing and vintage racing. He currently competes in vintage road racing events with his 1959 Devin SS and is constructing a 1927 Model T roadster for Bonneville. He has also been a concours judge and entrant. Pace has owned over 60 cars ranging from old dead Minis to trophy-winning Ferraris. He lives with his wife Shelley, cat Manxie and a number of mice he can't seem to evict from his shop in Weatherford, Texas. |
